Nothing 'little'
about this red wagon
What's 27 feet long, 13 feet wide, weighs 15,000 pounds and is red all over?
The World's Largest Wagon.
Ridge Road Station, located at 16131 Ridge Road West in Holley, will have the amazing, one-of-a-kind, record-breaker on display through May 29. This will be the very first opportunity for Upstate New Yorkers to view the wagon.
A percentage of the proceeds from this event will be given to the SPCC (Society for the Protection and Care of Children). Souvenir buttons will be on sale also to benefit the SPCC. Peter and Janet Mills, founders of Ridge Road Station, feel that as owners of a popular children's toy store, it's appropriate to include a worthwhile children's charity in this once-in-a-lifetime event.
"I'm bringing the wagon to my store simply because I want children and their parents to get the chance to see The World's Largest Wagon. The Radio Flyer brings back memories for adults, and in this Computer Age, it remains a timeless toy for kids. Computers are important, but will computers evoke the same nostalgia attached to the Radio Flyer in years to come?" Peter Mills said.
The wagon is nine times the size of the original Little Red Wagon. It measures 27 feet long, 13 feet wide, 27 feet tall to the top of the handle, weighs 15,000 pounds, was made from six tons of steel, and used 100 gallons of "Radio Flyer Red" paint. The wheels alone are eight feet in diameter and weigh 1,500 pounds each.
Eighty-four years have passed since Antonio Pasin, a young cabinetmaker from Venice, Italy, began handcrafting wooden wagons in a one-room shop in Chicago. In the years since 1917, Radio Flyer, makers of the Original Little Red Wagon®, has grown to be the world's leading producer of toy wagons - from hand-crafted wood wagons to stamped steel wagons to the newest all-plastic wagons. Radio Flyer is one of the oldest remaining national toy companies still owned and operated by the founding family. Robert and Paul Pasin are the third generation to own and manage Radio Flyer.
