Ferraro, 20, makes statement in PBA event
Rich Ferraro of Webster may be only twenty years of age, but he certainly held his own competing against the top bowlers in the world this past week.
After a slow start in the Pre-Tournament Qualifying Round, games of 202 and 190, Ferraro zoned in for 299 and he was on his way. He finished up with games of 227, 276, 276 and 269. Ferraros 1739 7-game total led the 78-player field and calculated out to a 248.43 average.
As Wednesdays top amateur, the 2005 Rochester Youth Bowler of the Year earned a spot into the 64-player field on Thursday. Again he started slow, hovering in 46th place after the 7-game morning block. Ferraro returned that evening to roll a 7-game pinfall of 1656 (236.57 avg.). His 246 final game vaulted him into 31st place, a mere 11 pins above the Top 32 cut. He ended the 14-game test at +393, for a 228.07 average.
Ferraros first match-play opponent was not very kind though, as Patrick Allen, the 2004-05 PBA Player of the Year, rolled 1032 at him for four games (258 average) to eliminate him 4-0.
Ferraro picked up some valuable experience and were sure that we
and the pros
will be hearing from him again.
